Induction Heat Treated Steel Bars | P. SOOD & CO. Chennai

P. SOOD & CO.

(EST. 1953)

P. SOOD & CO. provides induction heat treatment and value-added steel processing solutions for carbon steel, alloy steel and heat-treatable steel bars used in automotive, engineering, powertrain, transmission, hydraulic, industrial machinery, wind-energy, fastener and other high-performance applications.

Our Online Induction Quench & Temper (IQT) process is designed for the controlled heat treatment of long steel bars, providing consistent hardness, improved mechanical properties, dimensional stability and controlled metallurgical structure throughout the processed length. The induction heating, controlled polymer quenching and induction tempering process enables accurate and repeatable heat treatment of steel bars according to customer-specific hardness and application requirements.

Induction Quench & Temper (IQT) Steel Bars.

Our induction Q&T process is suitable for producing quenched and tempered steel bars, induction hardened and tempered steel bars, through-hardened steel bars and pre-hardened steel bars.

The process involves:

Raw Material → Material Identification → Bar Loading → Induction Heating / Austenitizing → Temperature Control → Polymer Quenching → Controlled Cooling → Induction Tempering → Final Cooling → Inspection → Finishing → Dispatch

The process is designed to achieve controlled transformation of the steel microstructure and produce tempered martensite with the required combination of hardness, strength and toughness.

Our induction heat-treatment capability covers a wide range of carbon and alloy steel grades and can be configured for long-length bars and selected tube and pipe applications. P. SOOD & CO. currently offers induction Q&T steel bars in commercial sizes extending approximately from 24 mm to 75 mm diameter, with long-length processing capability up to approximately 6 metres, depending on grade, size and customer specification. STEEL.

- Customer-specific packaging and bundling

Peeled and ground bars can be supplied to close dimensional tolerances such as H9 / H11, depending on the material size and customer requirement. STEEL

Induction Surface Hardening

In addition to through-hardening and quench & tempering, induction surface hardening can be used where a component or bar requires a hard, wear-resistant surface with a tougher core.

Induction surface hardening provides localized heating followed by controlled quenching to develop the required hardened surface layer. The process is particularly suitable for components and steel grades where wear resistance, fatigue performance and core toughness are important.

Typical applications include:

- Shafts

- Pins

- King pins

- Gear shafts

- Axle components

- Steering components

- Suspension components

- Powertrain components

- Transmission components

- Hydraulic components

- Industrial machinery components

Why Induction Heat Treatment?

Compared with conventional component-level heat treatment after machining, treating the steel bar before machining can provide important manufacturing advantages.

Pre-hardened and quenched & tempered steel bars can help manufacturers:

Reduce machining-related heat-treatment risk → Improve dimensional stability → Reduce distortion risk → Improve consistency → Reduce rejection risk → Improve production efficiency.

Heat treatment of the complete bar before machining allows manufacturers to start the machining process with material having controlled hardness and metallurgical properties.

This can be particularly valuable for automotive components, shafts, pins, gears, axles, steering and suspension parts, powertrain components and other safety-critical or high-load engineering components.

Quality Control of Heat Treated Steel Bars

Quality verification can include:

- Surface hardness testing

- Core hardness testing

- Hardness uniformity

- Microstructure examination

- Tempered martensite verification

- Straightness inspection

- Dimensional inspection

- Surface condition inspection

- Metallurgical testing

- Customer-specific testing

- Traceability and inspection documentation

The objective is to ensure that the processed steel bar meets the specified hardness, microstructure, dimensional and metallurgical requirements before it is released for machining or subsequent processing.

Typical Applications

P. SOOD & CO. supplies and processes heat-treated and value-added steel products for demanding industrial applications including:

Automotive Components | Auto Components | Powertrain Components | Transmission Components | Gear Shafts | Axle Components | King Pins | Steering Components | Suspension Components | Pins | Shafts | Bush Pins | Hydraulic Components | Industrial Machinery | Engineering Components | Wind Energy Components | Fasteners | High-Strength Components.

Our heat-treated steel bars are intended for applications where strength, hardness, toughness, wear resistance, dimensional stability and consistent metallurgical properties are important.
